Description
Summary:
The Fabricator/Welder performs skilled work in the repair of damaged fire trucks and emergency vehicles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Disassemble, repair and reassemble vehicles that have been in accidents.
Fabricate body parts and brackets out of aluminum and steel.
Work with the body/paint technician to bring the vehicle to like new condition.
Assist management in estimating damages and writing the accident quote.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Proficient in aluminum and steel sheet and structural welding
Ability to weld iron, steel, and aluminum piping.
Ability to operate an electric over hydraulic shear and brake.
Ability to stick weld, tig weld, and mig weld.
Ability to use a plasma cutter and acetylene/oxygen torches.
Ability to use welding procedures for different types of aluminum and steel.
Limited electrical knowledge is needed.
Must have hand tools and welding mask and gloves and proper steel-toe shoes wear.
Ability to work under limited supervision
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to create standard correspondence. Ability to effectively and concisely present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees. Ability to work from oral and written instructions. Proficient verbal communication skills, in English, are required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
(Comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the above minimum requirements.)
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions in written and oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variances in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
Thorough knowledge of different types of compositions of aluminum and steel. Steel and aluminum structure certification is preferable.
Ability to make parts out of flat sheeting.
Ability to minimize material waste.
Must have a complete understanding of metallurgy.
3 years in welding/fabrication in the fabrication and body welding or automotive/truck repair business
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
MEDIUM WORK: Lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and balancing.
WORK POSITION: Sitting 10%, standing 50% and walking 40%.
WORK CONDITIONS: Spends approximately 75% of the time outdoors.
